| Many children grow up with this as a way of
life in their own homes. They absorb what they see and
hear on TV. The lesson they learn is that people are
disposable and life has no value. Children learn by
example. We have to think about who is raising our
children. About who is setting the moral standards in our
home... And if the child is always watching TV, we can only assume that it's the TV who is raising them, or on a lighter note, it's the TV who is babysitting them. The way I see it is, the kids are hanging around the TV. Now, would you want your child hanging out with, an evil general, or an mad scientist, or a person casting magical spells? The example portrayed here on these very impressionable minds is, that through violence you can get what you want. For instance; Let's cast a spell and make him do what I want, or let's get a gun and shoot all the people who bother us, or treat us badly. And this is not a good way to be raising our children. Proverbs 3:6 says: In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths. Romans 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Alot of the cartoons these days, portray violence, ill behavior, and even sexual gestures!! And if you don't prevent your child from watching it, they will feel as you are condoning it. And if it's ok with Mommy and Daddy, then there is nothing wrong with it, which means it's ok to follow those types of examples that are shown on TV. You can see the impact these programs have on these children through their behavior. They admire the power that toy guns give them. Or they will try out a new karate kick on their little brother or sister. We not only have to monitor what they watch, we must monitor what types of programs we watch. If you come home from work or something, and you put on the TV, and start watching something that contains violence, nudity, profanity, etc. not only are you filling your head with that stuff, but it's filling the child's head as well! Bottom line is... If a child's head is filled with magical curses, or violence etc. that's what is going into his mind into his heart and out of his mouth and will be seen through his actions. You may say, well... it's harmless, it's JUST a movie... or it's just a cartoon, and he knows it's not real... Think of it this way... If Jesus was sitting in your house visiting you, would you still allow such violence to come into your home? We need to take time to be with our children; we need to teach them about God, about living a Christian life, We need to teach them to love, to have good manners, to be polite, forgiving, helpful, responsible, to trust in God, to fear the Lord, to pray and to use the handbook of life in every situation. We need the children to grow up seeking Godly things We need to plant love, care, peace, and happiness in our homes, so it would flourish through the children and they'll grow up in an environment not filled with hatred, confusion and chaos! We need to set the example for them so that they may learn what moral standards we hold high. We need to pay more attention to our children so that they do not need the TV to take care of them and to keep them busy, quiet and entertained. Proverbs 6:16 says: There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissention among brothers. Cartoons and all those action packed adventure movies that come into our homes, contain the garbage that the Lord HATES! So next time, you tell your kid to go sit down and be quiet and watch a movie, just think to yourself, if Jesus was sitting there with them, would he approve of what they are watching? God wants us and our children to avoid the paths of the wicked Proverbs 4:14, 15 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evil men. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way. And if there is any battling that should be going on... It's the battle between good and evil, because the battle for our souls is at stake here. And if any power is desired, let them use the power of God to make them feel strong. Ephesians 6:10, 11 Finally be strong in the Lord and His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. We as parents have failed if the reason for life and the accountability to God has not been taught. We should be aware of the traps that satan has built for us, and TV can be used to undermine Christian moral values, to desensitize, to ensnare and destroy our children. Children need to know, that LIFE is a gift from God.
